I know we are still in lock down a whole year later, but there is a bight light at the end of the tunnel. With that being said; IT’S TIME TO GET HOT GIRL SUMMA READY!!!! For the month of May I will be doing a 30 day, 30 pound challenge. I have done fitness challenges before but this one is going to be the best one yet due to me incorporating Ayurveda into it all. Are you ready to get fit with me for spring?
LETS GETTTTT ITTTT!
How?
I know you may be thinking, losing 30 pounds in 30 days is not possible….oh but it is! Losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise. But what if I told you that its not about what you eat…but how you eat? YEP SIS! You read that correctly. You can eat, cookies, chips, pizza etc; but that’s not what I’m planning on doing ha ha. Let me explain
Recently I have discovered Ayurveda for bloating, digestion and acid relief. I have used Ayurveda/ ayurvedic products and practices with my hair…but for my body? YA GIRL IS BLOWN! There are 10 food rules when it come to Ayurveda practices. Starting from day 1-10, I will start to implicate 1 rule each day until have incorporated all 10 rules on the 10th day. That way i’m not stressing… I have enough of that to being with.
10 Rules/ Tips of Ayurveda Eating
Eat until three quarters satisfied
That’s right, do not eat until you are full. Until until you are ¾ full. Overeating produces free radicals in our bodies which speeds up the process of aging and overloads our digestion. When your digestion is overloaded, food can not be processed..will sit in our stomachs and can ferment. This will cause toxins/gases to form and ultimately -bloating
Eat your dessert before dinner
Yep! You read that correctly. It’s said that if you are going to have something sweet, have it before your meal or as a snack between your meals. This is because sugars or sweet foods take longer to digest.
Don’t drink large amounts of water with meals
Drinking large amounts of water with your meals slows down your digestion. The gases in your stomach that meant for digestion actually get diluted so it will take a long amount of time for your food to be digested. Once again fermented food and buildup of toxins. Make sure you take very small sips and maximum of ½ cup of water per meal.
Eat food prepared with love
This one is pretty self-explanatory. Cooking with love and positive intentions will affect how your food will be digested. This comes from the Indian word Prasad. This means food cooked with love, seasoned with devotion, offered to god, sealed with a prayer, and served with joy. 😊
Nothing better than nourishing your body with positive energy, good intention and love.
Eat without distractions
DO NOT sit in front of the TV and eat your meals, DO NOT sit at your desk and eat while working, and DO NOT watch things on your phone or scroll through social media. Food is a sacred part of our day. Food nourishes our bodies and helps us to continue to exist. So out of respect, we should be giving our food just as much respect and energy as it gives us.
Avoid cold drinks and fizzy beverages
Having iced or cold beverages with your meal can dampen your digestion making it harder for your food to digest. Think of it this way, when you eat something that’s too cold for you, you get a brain freeze. You shut your eyes tight, you can’t think, breathing gets hard and your brain is literally like HOLD UP!!! That’s what cold beverages do to your digestion. It puts everything at a halt. Fizzy drinks cause unnatural gases in your stomach which will leave you with the discomfort you get after eating
Avoid snacking
Its recommended that we have a 3-hour gap between our meals. I know there’s a lot of diets that suggest you have breakfast, a snack, Lunch, another snack and so forth. According to Ayurveda, this disrupts the digestion cycle and does not give our stomach enough time to 1. properly rest in between meals, and 2. allow our digestion to breakdown our first meal before packing on the next. It’s said that each main meal can take up to 3 hrs. to digest and meals with dense foods (meats, white processed products, sugars) can take up to 6! Mainly, just always make sure to leave a 3 hr gap between your last meal and your bedtime
Add spices to your food
Not just to season your food but to promote health with the foods you ingest. I don’t know if you have been living under a rock, but since the dawn of time; herbs and spices have been used as natural medicines and remedies. There is a spice for everything. Whether it be for bloating, or gas, cleansing, or spiritual/mind there are endless options.
Walk after you eat
Yes, Walk WALK WAAALK! Siting or laying down after eating is a BIG NO NO! This actually squashes your digestive organs and doesn’t allow your organs to carry out what they are meant to do. I will be adding a 15 min walk after each meal on top of my x4 15 min walks I do daily with the pup.
Eat your largest meal in the afternoon
Your body is always In-tune with nature. Just like the sun is at its highest peak and strongest in the afternoon, so are our bodies. Its recommended to have our largest meal in the afternoon because this is also when our digestion is its strongest. So, having my largest meal in the afternoon and having a lighter, less complex, less ingredient meal for dinner is the way to go! For me this would be veggies and a protein of some sort or a nice light green salad with a homemade dressing.
Workouts!
Along side with my diet and mindset changes I will incorporate two 2-week challenges by my two favorite YouTuber’s.
Chloe Ting- 21-day Hourglass Challenge
Mr. London- 2-week Get Lean Challenge
A lot of people have said they tried and didn’t get crazy results like others. You can’t just do these workouts for the two and think you will magically have abs and a flat stomach. The only way to burn fat is cardio or heavy weight training. However, you must lose those layers of fat in order to have your muscles tone and be visible. In edition to my normal 4 times a day walks with hunter, I will also be adding in 3 more 15-20 min walks after meals. Above all, this will help me burn some extra fat the lazy way since I can’t lift weights at a gym. Another way I will do this, is by adding in resistance band training or short 15 min circuits on days when I cannot go out on walks (April showers bring May flowers)
